Recollections En Route: Updates + I’m Back!

This is the longest I’ve gone without posting on the blog… EVER… and I have mixed feelings about it. On one hand it felt like I needed to take a break. Constantly worrying about creating content and keeping up with the {travel} Joneses took its toll on me. Social media ran my life and I started losing focus on the entire reason I started blogging in the first place. On the other hand, writing and creating on this space has always been an outlet for me. And with that instrumental piece of my life missing, it began to feel like a part of my identity was slowly slipping away from me.

Recollections En Route: Holy Cow, I’m in India

India has always been a perplexing country to me. If I thought South Korea was intimidating, you can imagine the fears I had about India. The culture, the poverty, and the chaos all crossed my mind while contemplating my trip. That being said, India has always been on my bucket list. And since I was living in Asia, it made sense to take advantage of my location. So, I booked a flight.

Recollections En Route: Hungover in Hong Kong

For our last trip, but first international adventure together, Gena and I booked tickets to Hong Kong over Lunar New Year. We figured, what better way to ring in a new year, and close another chapter in our lives simultaneously? Well, I must say Hong Kong lived up to every expectation I had ever imagined. But it might not be for the reasons you’d assume…

Recollections En Route: Welcoming 2019 in Seoul

I previously drafted two different “New Year” posts, but neither of them really captured the essence of the past year. I finally came to the conclusion that no amount of words typed in a blog post will be able to explain what the past year has meant to me. But alas, I feel the need to say something as we head into 2019.

Recollections En Route: What’s Good for the Seoul

It’s safe to say that my experience here in South Korea has been…a complex one. It’s been a year consisting of many different and connected parts.  For once in my life I went through all four stages of culture shock: honeymoon, frustration, adjustment, and acceptance. My dear friend Ariel wrote about this earlier in the year, and it truly hit home with me. And after nine months of living in South Korea, I can confidently say I have reached the final stage.  Continue Reading

Recollections En Route: Changing of the Seasons + Life Updates

Well, it’s Autumn here in South Korea. In fact, if temperature is any indication of the season, we are already on the edge of winter here in early November. Autumn is my absolute favorite season in the world. That is, with the exception of the holiday season in New York City. Regardless, as fate would have it, I’ve been stuck in bed, sick, for the past two weeks… And while admiring the leaves changing colors from the window in my small studio apartment is less than ideal, I’ll take what I can get.  Continue Reading

Recollections En Route: The Most Successful Relationship I’ve Ever Had

It was about hour… dramatic pause while I attempt to do second grade math… 13 in transit. I was on board flight two of the day. My flight from Daegu to Shanghai was spectacular in the sense that it lasted one measly hour, and I only got slightly nervous during take off. I found myself on flight two when I suddenly discovered something miraculous. Continue Reading

RECOLLECTIONS EN ROUTE: A TALE OF TWO CITIES

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. – Charles Dickens

Which happens to describe my experience living in London and New York perfectly. I think back to the state in which I arrived to both of these two cities. The technical differences outweigh the similarities, and yet in retrospect I think my intentions ran parallel on both ventures.  Continue Reading
