NOTABLE NORMALCIES // 5.5.2017

This week has been an incredible one.

…at least when compared to the shit storm of a week I had previously. There was nothing notable about that week. Other than the fact I survived it.

May has arrived and with it, sunny afternoons and handsome athletes. My week at work was a quieter one. Or at least it felt that way. It’s true what they say about taking control of what happens in your life. It is all about changing your attitude. I did this recently and my world has felt all the more manageable. Remember that hole I mentioned in this post? Yeah, I have put the shovel down.

Here are some of the notable normalcies in my life as of late:

Reads

I am currently reading ‘Leaving Time’ by Jodi Picoult and I cannot put it down. The story revolves around a young girl who is searching for her Mother who disappeared after a tragedy occurred at an elephant sanctuary. In the novel, her Mother studies elephant behavior as it pertains to grief. ‘Leaving Time’ is full of mystery, as well as a bunch of information about elephants, which to me is extremely interesting. It’s a somewhat light read and perfect for my commute. I’ll keep you updated on the ending {always the make or break for a novel}.

Bites

Shortly after accepting my promotion, my new team took me out for a celebratory lunch. I have never been a huge seafood fan, but Crave Fish Bar ultimately changed this for me. Basically, my boss loves oysters. And, when offered an entire platter of oysters, clams, and prawns, a girl is not going to say no. I was sort of in Heaven? And this surprised me. I have a newfound love of these slimy little creatures in shells, but I’m not mad about it. We have returned multiple times and I attempted to bring a friend back for oyster happy hour {only in New York}, where oysters are $1 each. This city might be morphing me into a bougie-r version of myself. My days of Top Ramen and $2 wine in Prague may be over. Or nah.

New York

This week, one of the companies in our building hosted a celebrity charity event. Just to name a few on the guest list: Alex Rodriguez (A Rod), Derek Jeter, Shaquille O’Neal, David Diehl, and wait for it… Bill Clinton! Yes, our former U.S. President was in the building! MY building. All the women in our office obviously were dressed to the nines on our regular Tuesday afternoon. I grew up hating the Yankees, but I’ve always known who Jeter was. It’s not like I’ve been living under a rock. Getting to see these larger than life {literally and figuratively} athletes was such a highlight for me, and definitely the best day I’ve had at the office since joining the firm. One of the many perks of living in the center of the universe, New York City.

Travel

I am leaving for Canada in three weeks! In preparation for this, and as a belated birthday present, I spoiled myself and purchased the newest GoPro: the GoPro Hero 5. This purchase has been in the works for quite some time. I couldn’t decide whether splurging for the latest model would be worth it, or if I should save some cash and downgrade to the Hero 4 {still just as good in many ways}. Ultimately, I decided on the newer model, knowing very well I would be getting my money’s worth. I’m talking waterproof {without the housing}, voice commands, stabilization, and a linear setting. What can I say, I’m a nerd when it comes to camera equipment. Ciricling back to my main point, I will be taking this new toy of mine to Canada to start recording footage and practicing with wide angled shots. This GoPro has inspired me to plan out some weekend trips along the east coast and I couldn’t be more excited.

Tunes

The soundtrack of my life has included the following tracks, all inspiring, all making me want to kick ass at life:  “Parachute” by Chris Brown, “Most Girls” by Hailee Steinfeld, “Fight For It” by Lucy Spraggan, “Attention” by Charlie Puth, “Till Your Loved” by Mr Probz, “Bet You Still Think About Me” by Blake Shelton, and finally “I Think of You” by Jeremiah, Big Sean, and Chris Brown {let’s be honest though, the only verse I enjoy is Breezy’s, which comes at no surprise — the obsession is so real}
