NOTABLE NORMALCIES // 6.9.2017

I recently received a blog comment from someone expressing disappointment in the fact that it feels like I have ‘given up’ on my blog. Which, I totally get. And somewhat agree with.

It’s unfortunate that I have not dedicated as much time to my blog as I had anticipated in the last six months.

But a lot of things have changed in my life in the last six months. Some of which being fantastic. Some making me want to tug at the ends of my hair follicles until they fall out.

The second aspect of this comment included mention that it feels as though I have given up on life in general as well. Wait, WHAT? The only thought I could muster up was,

Quite the contrary.

In the last six months I have been living a fuller life than I have in the last few years. For better or worse. My calendar is penciled in, carved out, and looks as though I have attacked it with highlighters. And I’m still attempting to figure it all out. But giving up on life? Giiiiiiirl, I’m too busy living to blog. And that’s not a bad problem to have.

I am always thinking, wheels always turning, as I contemplate what to do with this online space. I have so much to share. So much to say. And I’ll get to it. But as they say, don’t get too busy making a living that you forget to make a life. Whatever consumes you, find a way to live through it. Not just wave as it passes by.

And with that, I give you these days notable normalcies.

Travel

The last couple of weekends have been filled to the brim with traveling, including a trip to Canada and Connecticut. As you may know from reading my recent posts  here and here, I spent Memorial Day Weekend in Montreal, Canada. And it was just what the doctor ordered. Following this quick trip across the Northern border, I made an even quicker trip to visit a friend in Connecticut. And boy, was it beautiful. I mean, stunning. I spent the day sipping wine by the lake and hanging out with the locals.

New York

I am beginning to feel a true connection with this city. It’s a love, hate thing. More on that later as it requires an entire blog post dedicated to this concept. Moving on.

My host duties have yet to decelerate, as my two favorite guests thus far joined me in the big apple. That’s right, Mother and Father Reynolds paid me a visit and allowed me to drag them all over the city. From Brooklyn, to the Hamptons, all of Manhattan, and eventually Washington, DC. They packed it in. It was the greatest feeling to have my parents in town, and I was extremely tempted to climb in their suitcases and fly back to California.

New York also helped me welcome another extremely special person to the concrete jungle last week. Sarah arrived and is settling in to life in the bright lights quite easily. She’ll be ‘right.

Shows

Orange is the New Black is premiering its new season tonight, so you can image how I will spend my Friday night…

But aside from OTNB, I have been absolutely entranced with The Handmaid’s Tale on Hulu. Guys, I have never looked forward to a Wednesday night the way I do every single week of my life now. It’s dark and twisted and makes you truly scratch your noggin when it’s over. But aren’t those always the best?

Dry June

So, you may be thinking, how can you be participating in a ‘Dry June’ when half of these photos contain alcohol in them? I mean, it kind of speaks for itself in that sense, right? The truth of the matter is most of these photos were taken prior to June 1st. But it’s true, I’m saying goodbye to alcohol this month. It’s a personal decision, but is mostly influenced by my health. So far I’ve attended happy hours, brunches and watched a Giants game in a sports bar all the while sipping on an orange juice/peppermint tea/good ol’ H2O. I encourage you all to do the same!

Beauty

Bum Bum cream. That is all I am going to say. You’re welcome.

Tunes

This category could get real out of hand, real quick. Let’s just get to it, shall we? Bad at Love by Halsey is honest, hilarious, and hits home. Can I Be Him by James Arthur because I’ve been obsessed with James Arthur ever since I discovered him last year in Paris. You should also check out the acoustic version {which I actually fell in love with first}. He is an angel sent from musical heaven, I’m telling you. I can promise you I will be at any live show of his within a 500 mile radius of New York City. I’m a Fan by Pia Mia featuring Jeremiah. Not angelic in the slightest. But it get’s me prepared for my work week via Subway commute. Bad Liar by Selena Gomez. What can I say, she started dating The Weeknd and suddenly started popping out bangers. Pretty Girl (Cheat Codes x CADE Remix) by Maggie Lindemann for all my pretty {smart} guuurls. I’ve also took it back a few years and began listening to Lorde again. This song will always remind me of a special time and place in my life, Tennis Court. Sigh.

And finally, Begin Again by Taylor Swift. Because it’s just too spot on.

  1. are you cutting out alcohol because you think you’re getting fat? i gave up alcohol four years ago and in the first two months lost nearly 30 pounds.
