NIGHT CRAWLERS

London at night is a different world compared to London during the day. It is a world I rarely experience as the sun doesn’t set until 10 PM {seriously}, and my bedtime is about 9:45 PM {actually}.

But it’s a world that enchants me.

When you see the buildings and the monuments lit by the night sky, they become different structures then they were before. They aren’t on display for thousands of tourists, all attempting to get that perfect photo to bring home to their families. Everyone wanting a piece of them. They are less vulnerable in the dark, unlike most of us. Able to stand tall for those few admirers.

So I feel lucky to be witness to these buildings at night.

There is always a buzz in London, any time of the day. Comparable to New York, although nothing compares to New York. After all its the city that never sleeps.

But London can stay awake. London is there patiently awaiting the sunrise too. It just knows it doesn’t need to exhaust itself, or impress anyone, in the process. The buzz continues throughout the city at all hours. It can be heard very clearly on the corner of a local pub on Friday nights. And yet, small, cobblestone pathways can be eerily silent. But the contrast is the best part about living in a city. Just like New York, you have access to whatever you need.

The knowledge that life is somewhere close by if you are looking to find it.

And peacefulness can be found around the corner too.

My nights in London have varied from the local pub on the corner, to a three story night club, to a glass of wine overlooking the entire city. Always buzzing, but never overwhelming.

London showcases exuberance, as any major city would. But it does so with elegance.

I’ve come to discover that London is no big apple.

It’s an apple martini.
